A CAPTIVE audience was treated to a performance by National Eisteddfod champions Côr Meibion Machynlleth last month.
Llanwrtyd Wells’ Victoria Hall was full to capacity on Saturday night, October 14, to listen to the National Eisteddfod 2023 men’s choir winners perform.
The concert, organised by the Llanwrtyd and District Heritage and Arts Centre, was long-awaited – the choir were due to perform in Llanwrtyd pre-Covid but when the pandemic hit, the concert had to be postponed.

Llanwrtyd mayor and centre trustee Sarah Jones welcomed everyone to the event and thanked the numerous sponsors.
Choir member Aled Griffiths was the compere and provided entertaining commentary throughout, as the choir, whose conductor is Aled Myrddin, performed songs in a variety of languages, from traditional Welsh classics to modern songs from the musicals.
With Menna Rhys accompanying on the piano, the audience were given an evening of excellent entertainment. Soloists included well-known tenor Aled Wyn Davies, Ioan Mabbutt, Aled Rees and Ilan Jones, the National Eisteddfod 2023 baritone solo winner.
During the interval, concert president John Rowlands, accompanied by his wife Rosemary, thanked the community, volunteers and trustees who work diligently throughout the year to maintain the local heritage centre that's such an important asset to the town.
The raffle, sponsored by Brenda Bickerton Jones of Lloyds Bank, was then drawn with prizes donated by Tesco Llandrindod, Co-op Builth Wells, Iwan Price, Anwen Price, Georgie Perrett, Sarah Jones, Arwyn Morgan and Premier Stores Llanwrtyd.
At the end of the evening, the choir and supporting artists performed a wonderful rendition of 'O Gymru'.
