A dream wedding in Powys is to be auctioned to help raise money for local children with cancer.
The Globe at Hay-on-Wye, known as “a magical converted Methodist chapel wedding venue”, is offering exclusive use of its entire venue and grounds, plus discounted catering, to maximise profits for the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust.
Couples planning to tie the knot in June, September, October, November or December in 2024 are being encouraged to place a bid.
All proceeds from the sale, which is live until November 10, is the third consecutive auction with proceeds from all three benefitting #BeMoreFrank, a special named fund of the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust.
The fund was named after Frank Cleal who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma aged 11 in 2019. After two years of treatment, including intensive high toxicity chemotherapy to try to combat an exceptionally aggressive childhood cancer, passed away on June 4, 2021 aged just 13.
The fund provides grants to the family of every child with cancer in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Powys, Monmouthshire, Ceredigion, and Gloucestershire. It recently began providing funding for a Herefordshire childhood cancer Family Support Worker for three months. A successful auction could allow it to extend this funding.
Emma Cleal, Frank's mother and founder of #BeMoreFrank, said: “We’re honoured to offer another wonderful wedding or event package auction. Off the back of successful first and second auctions, this third auction will help provide a vital financial hand to families experiencing their darkest times.

“Devastatingly our younger son lost his life to cancer and I know first hand how it affects the whole family. When your child has cancer, all any parent wants is to be able to concentrate on being at their bedside, not worrying about bills.
"But it’s not that simple. Treating childhood cancer is normally a years-long, devastating process and financial hardship too often compounds acutely traumatic stress.”
Situated within a beautiful converted Methodist chapel, The Globe is described as “the perfect wedding venue” for a truly unique celebration: from vintage style garden parties or monster ceilidh shindigs, to intimate drinks receptions or a sit-down meal.
The winning bidder has a choice of five dates next year: June 15, September 7, October 12, November 9 or December 7.
“I want to thank those who submit bids and I also want to thank the generosity of The Globe at Hay,” added Emma.
“This is such a positive way to fundraise in memory of Frank and I truly hope the winning couple experience the extra joy on their big day of knowing they are also helping people when they need it most.
“There are few more significant events in life than planning a wedding or similar event. We’re delighted to be able to offer a lucky winner this stunning magical venue in the heart of the famed book town seating a huge 120 guests.”
