Welshpool will be used as one of the filming bases for an upcoming rugby documentary series for S4C.
Following a casting day held at Welshpool Rugby Club on October 31, Whisper Cymru, the production team behind the upcoming series, revealed that Welshpool would be one of the bases for filming the series.
The six part series, O’r Stryd i’r Sgrym (From Street to Scrum), will follow the creation of a brand-new rugby team made up of members of the public, playing alongside former Welsh rugby legends.
The team will be led by former Welsh Rugby Union and League international, Scott Quinnell, with assistance from other high-profile ex-internationals, in partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union.

A casting call was held on October 31, with inexperienced players being invited to take part in the auditions, held by the production company behind the series Whisper Cymru.
Katie Tweedle, head of communications at Whisper Cymru, said: “The casting event went well on October 31 and we have already started filming for the series.
“We will be using Welshpool as one of our bases for filming.
“We will be starting our training from next week and this will be running on a rotation between bases at Welshpool RFC, Nant Conwy RFC and Cefneithin RFC in order to ensure opportunity across the country.”
The series is scheduled to broadcast in 2024 and will culminate in a competitive match of T1 non-contact rugby against an established club in England during the Six Nations 2024.
Carys Owens, managing director of Whisper Cymru said: “There are so many exciting elements to this project. It’s one of the first times that World Rugby’s new tier of rugby, T1, will be showcased and it’s for such a great project; it feels very special.
“We have worked with the Welsh Rugby Union for many years and it’s great to showcase the values of rugby in this way and show how the sport can help society.
“We will be drawing on our strong rugby production experience and ambitious approach to delivering content.”
