A CONVICTED Powys sex offender, described as a “very high risk” to girls, has had an arrest warrant issued for him after he failed to show up for his crown court sentencing.

Callum Abbott, 24, from Newtown, was due to be sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Thursday after his case was committed there following an appearance at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court last month.

Abbott, of Back Lane, Newtown, admitted two charges on October 10; failing to comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders register on April 10 this year, and breaching the terms of a sexual harm prevention order between April 11 and June 3.

OTHER NEWS:

Abbott admitted contacting a teenage girl hundreds of times. He was caught when his phone was seized by police after they received a report that a girl was speaking to the known sex offender.

Data revealed there had been contact on 267 occasions between April 11 and June 3 this year.

Abbott, who is not allowed to contact or be in the same premises with girls under 16, also admitted he failed to register a new address in Newtown as part of conditions imposed on sex offenders.

The magistrates court hearing was told Abbott is assessed as a “very high risk and an imminent risk of harm” to girls and is known to engage with other sex offenders.

County Times:

Abbott previously told police he couldn't recall texting or leaving voicemail messages with the teenager because he was “off his head on ketamine” and “on drugs 99 per cent of the time”.

He also told officers he didn't understand the requirements of the sexual harm prevention order because he is dyslexic and claims it wasn't explained to him.

Abbott, who was given conditional bail not to contact the teenager and ordered to attend Mold Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, failed to show, so the judge ordered a warrant for his arrest.
