A restaurant and wine bar in Machynlleth, which began as a new venture from Wales’ most acclaimed restaurant, is holding its first event this month.

Gwen, the new restaurant by Ynyshir chef Gareth Ward, will be holding a 10 course champagne dinner on Thursday, October 26.

The evening will see 10 courses being paired with a different champagne, selected to compliment the dish over the two-hour long event.

Ynyshir’s Wine and Beverage Director, Rory Eaton, said: “It’s been really fun to put the whole thing together.

“The idea of hosting a large, multiple course meal paired with champagne came to our team while we were travelling and we thought ‘what better place to do it than Gwen’, where our wine bar and restaurant are on top form.

“It’s designed to be a showcase of how versatile champagne can be. While we think of it as a celebratory drink there’s actually many varieties and moods to it, which we’ll show by pairing a different type with each course.

“One of the aims of opening Gwen was to provide a unique food and drink experience in Machynlleth and showcase some of the best local ingredients and I think events like this give us the perfect chance to do so.”

Gwen began as a new venture by Gareth Ward of Ynishir, the only restaurant in Wales with two Michelin stars, with the aim of a creating restaurant at the heart of the Machynlleth community in the town centre.

Since opening earlier this year, Gwen has reportedly received plenty of interest from both Machynlleth residents and tourists.

County Times:

Sous chef Jaimie Hemstone said: “It’s been very good so far. We started with a big list of people who wanted to eat here when we first opened in May and quickly filled plenty of bookings.

“We have had lots of positive feedback over these first few months, as well as some constructive criticism which we’ve taken on board to improve to the point where we are very happy with how things are currently going.

“We have a good amount of local people coming in as well as visitors and tourists, which is the exact kind of mix we wanted.

“There have also been a lot of repeat customers, people who visit whenever they are in the area or locals who drop by regularly, which is wonderful to see as one of our aims was to build a restaurant that truly felt like a part of the community.”
