TWO members of the Bracken Trust Singers have been recognised for their community efforts by the High Sheriff of Powys.
The Llandrindod Wells group has had a supremely busy schedule recently, but at one concert the evening’s entertainment was put on hold as Reg Cawthorne, who is chairman of the Bracken Trust but also serving as Powys’ High Sheriff this year, paid tribute to two of the group’s stalwarts.
Reg presented two High Sheriff Awards, firstly to Bev Nethercoat, who, with his wife Pam, has for the past several years given up his Christmas Day to feed those in need at Llandrindod’s Holy Trinity Church.
Bev is also well known locally for his organ playing in various churches, including at weddings and funerals.
The second award went to Christine Clarke, who as well as being a volunteer with the Bracken Trust, was asked to start the Bracken Trust Singers over a decade ago.
The event also saw the group perform four songs and host two choirs at the Royal British Legion club in Llandrindod on Saturday, September 2.

The Bracken Trust Singers were joined by the combined choirs of the Wesley Singers and Cor Llanwnog, from Llanidloes, completing the first half with ‘Myfanwy’ featuring guest soloist Mike Clarke.
Included in a ‘music from the musicals’ themed second half, Cor Llanwnog gave an excellent rendition of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from Titanic, followed by ‘Do You Hear the People Sing’ from Les Miserables.
The singers had previously performed at St Mary’s Church in Builth Wells and at the Metropole Hotel. All proceeds from the September concert were for Bracken Trust cancer support centre, in Llandrindod.
