PROCEEDS from the Llanddewi Tractor Run held last month have been handed over to Blood Bikes Wales.
Barry Bevan, chair of the event’s organising committee, presented a cheque for £230 on September 14 to Steve Bufton of Blood Bikes Wales, which operates a courier service to NHS Wales hospitals across the country.
Gareth Rees and Dennis Davies, who together had plotted the route for the tractor run, were present on the day, as were Dot Bevan and Joan Davies who served and supplied refreshments.
The annual run was held on August 20, starting from Llanddewi Village Hall and touring the communities of Llanbister Road, Gravel Arch, Bleddfa, Dolau and Heartsease using tarred roads, country lanes and tracks in their 25 mile circuit, before returning to the finish back in Llanddewi.
Steve explained how Blood Bikes Wales provides a unique and much-needed service which relies solely on volunteers and donations from the public.
They are manned 100 per cent by volunteers, providing completely a free courier service to the NHS, delivering blood samples, plasma, donated human milk, documents and other items, and covering the whole of Wales.
Their service is free of charge and operates on weekdays for some health boards and all weekend across Wales including bank holidays and even Christmas day.
