A golf-mad girl who only picked up the sport two years ago has her sights firmly on representing Wales after competing against some of the best junior golfers in the UK.
Lucy Hurst first got hooked to golf immediately after picking up her brother's clubs and since then has travelled across Wales and the UK representing Mid Wales and St Idloes Golf Club.
Lucy finished in eighth position, and shot a personal best in the final round, after competing against the best 12-year-old girls in Britain and Ireland at the Wee Wonders Grand Final held at Gullane Golf Club in Scotland last month.
One-to-watch Lucy has qualified for the US Kids Golf tournament which returns to Scotland next year where the world’s best young golfers aged five to 18 compete.
The St Idloes starlet said she was "proud and excited" to represent the county, adding that she has met lots of new friends through the sport.

"I really like exploring different ways to improve my game," she said.
"I would like to encourage girls to take up golf because it is a sport for everyone these days. It is sociable and fun".
Lucy represented the Mid Wales County Golf Association in the Welsh Girls' Under 18 Inter County Championship at Conwy Golf Club where she put up a “sterling performance, representing the area with style and skill” against girls from Glamorganshire, Caernarvonshire and Anglesey, Denbighshire and Flintshire, and Carmarthenshire and Pembroke.
Proud dad David, who’s also the junior organiser at St Idloes Golf Club, says Lucy’s ambition is to play for her country but he’s keen to see more children take up the sport and follow his daughter’s footsteps after she was the only girl representing Mid Wales.
“We’re desperately trying to get kids involved,” David said. “Wales Golf are very good at providing funding for lessons.”
St Idloes Golf Club offer free to attend Saturday morning fun golf sessions for juniors and will be looking to run more junior coaching sessions from October. For more information about attending future coaching sessions, contact David by sending an email to stidloesjuniors@gmail.com
