TO continue celebrating this centenary year of the Powys Radnor Federation of Women’s Institutes, an exhibition of crafts was held in the Metropole Hotel during Victorian Festival week.

The five-day event was very successful with many locals and visitors to the town attending and admiring the wonderful and creative work on display with representation from every WI involved.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Ann Jones, national chair of the Welsh Federation, who was accompanied by Rhian Connick, head of the Wales office, Ann Smith, chair of the Victorian Festival, Marilyn Thomas, organiser of the exhibition, and Libby Hughes, chair of Powys Radnor WIs.

Visitors were welcomed and encouraged to enjoy the exhibits made over the years, representing a fraction of work and crafts created by members.

OTHER NEWS:

There were also demonstrations of crafts done in the past but still enjoyed to this day and the whole event was put together by a team of members from Tremont and Newbridge-on-Wye Wis, working over several months planning and gathering the exhibits.

On view also from the county archives were material and documentation collected on the Radnor field name survey 50 years ago and which was of interest to many people especially those seeing again some of the work they had carried out on that important project.

The federation banner made by members, together with other banners, were on display illustrating not only their individual WI group but also local points of interest.

Thanks to staff at the Metropole for their invaluable help and assistance over the five days.
