A HELICOPTER and its crew had a lucky escape after it was sent into a spin near a Powys hotel when its engine failed.
The incident which took place near the Llangoed Hall, near Brecon has been reviewed by the Air Accident Investigations Branch after the aircraft ran into serious trouble on June 17.
According to details released by the Air Accidents Investigations Branch report, they show that the helicopter initially had “an uneventful approach” and that the aircraft was “hover-taxiing to the helicopter landing pad”.

However, as they began to approach the hotel a warning sound went off in the cockpit. According to the report immediately after this the helicopter “started spinning”.
Thinking fast the pilot “lowered the collective lever” and managed to get the helicopter to land “heavily”.
According to Air Accident Investigation Brach the warning that went off was the “low rpm warner” and that they have judged that the cause of the accident “is believed to be a loss of engine power.”
According to the UK Civil Aviation Authority the helicopter is registered with a firm based in Shobdon, near Leominster called Tiger Aviation.
Thankfully it appears no one was seriously injured in the incident.
