A WOMAN who bottled a fellow reveller in a Powys nightclub during a night out will be sentenced later this year after admitting the offence.

Jessica Deakins, from Llanfair Caereinion, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on Alice Collard on a night out in Newtown in February 2022 when she appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 2.

The 22-year-old was seen by the victim approaching her in a nightclub on February 26 last year with an “aggressive look on her face”, with Ms Collard then feeling herself being struck with a bottle to the head.

The bottle struck her just above the right eye and has left her with permanent scarring, the court heard.

Deakins, of Heol Bowys, Llanfair, entered a guilty plea to a single charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan said: “The victim was struck in the face by a bottle. It has left her with a permanent scar, about 2cm in length. It was glued.

“She is a young girl, this is going to have an impact on her. It was an intentional strike. There had been pushing and shoving in the nightclub, with people dancing.

“The victim became aware of the defendant approaching her with an aggressive look. She had a bottle and the next thing she knew was she was hit with a bottle.”

Huw Williams, representing Deakins, said the attack had not been pre-meditated.

“There were a bunch of youngsters dancing, jumping, and there was beer being thrown,” he said.

County Times:

“There was no pre-meditation. The defendant takes umbrage over the fact she was pushed and the beer being thrown, and in a split second she throws out her right arm and connects with the right eye of the victim.

“The court must decide if there was a significant degree of pre-meditation.”

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until August 30 and ordered an all options report, which could include committing the case to the crown court for sentencing.

Deakins will remain on unconditional bail until that date.
