A LONDON-BASED youth charity has expressed an interest in purchasing the town’s former youth centre.
At a town council meeting on Wednesday, July 27, a report from Councillor Nick Howells revealed that he had attended a meeting with representatives from the Feathers Association concerning the future of Welshpool Youth Centre.
A group that supports youth and community programmes across London, the organisation is reportedly looking to expand into more rural areas by investing in spaces that can serve as youth clubs or reviving existing establishments.

The meeting was organised by Powys Youth Leader Gwen Evans, as the building is currently owned by Powys County Council.
Talks are still in the early stages, but Cllr Howells stated that he was pleased with the Feathers Association’s proposals.
He said: “They seem to be a good group, and the meeting itself was very interesting as they seem thoroughly invested in their plans for the building. They are especially passionate about keeping it as a youth club.
“Personally, having met with them a few times, I think it’d be a real boost if they were to move into Welshpool.”
