Powys: 93-year-old goes viral for his love of Wrexham Lager

The historic Wrexham business shone the spotlight on Meurig Morgan when he turned 93 years old just a few weeks ago.

Since the company was re-established in 2011, Mr Morgan, from Newtown, has celebrated each birthday by drinking a Wrexham Lager.

In fact, he has also been drinking the much-loved lager since the mid-70's when it was in its previous form.

For his 93rd birthday recently, Mr Morgan popped to his local Tesco store in Newtown to pick up his favourite drink.

Wrexham Lager posted a tribute to him and the post went viral.

The original post read: "Meet 93 year old Meurig Morgan, who for the past twelve years since Wrexham Lager was reestablished in 2011, has drank a Wrexham Lager product to celebrate each birthday with!

"Meurig, who recalls drinking Wrexham Lager since the mid-70’s, recognised the iconic Sky blue branding on our four per cent bottles in Newtown Tesco store, one of 58 stores stocking Wrexham Lager in Wales, and couldn’t celebrate his 93rd birthday without one!

"From everyone at Wrexham Lager and we’re sure all of our great customers, we wish you a very happy birthday & sure it will be one to remember with a Wrexham in hand. Iechyd Da."

The business has since posted an update to reveal that the post was like by over 106,000 people.

Over four thousand birthday messages were also posted to Mr Morgan as a result of the post.

Wrexham Lager hailed it as a 'special story'.

A post from the business read: "93 year old Wrexham Lager fan Meurig Morgan’s Birthday goes 𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐋!

"Last week, we posted a status on our Facebook wishing Happy Birthday to Meurig Morgan, who had turned 93 with a bottle of Wrexham Lager purchased from TESCO. But what we didn’t anticipate and much to the delight of Meurigs family, this wouldn’t be the only Happy Birthday he received!
