Hundreds of thousands of pounds has been awarded to projects across Powys in the latest round of National Lottery funding.

The latest round of funding by the National Lottery Community Fund in Wales has seen the county receive money for multiple projects aimed at improving services in the community.

The largest amount of money was awarded to Neuadd Bentref Cwmllinau, near Machynlleth, who have been awarded a special Rural Futures Grant of £160,000. The money will paid over three years to refurbish the village hall in Cwmllinau.

The upgraded hall will mean the facility can be used by the community and the extended community, across the Dyfi Valley, for social events, clubs, education, training, an internet cafe, and access to health services and services from other agencies.

The funding is not the only good news for those in the Dyfi Valley as Machynlleth Town Council was awarded a £50,400 cost of living grant.

The money will be used will to replace the outdated boilers at the Plas and it is hoped that the warmer building “will continue to be a focal point for community facilities including space for education, wellbeing and community classes, rental space for community groups as well as a facility for entertainment and conferences”.

Rhayader and District Community Support also received a large grant of £80,227 the money has been designated to “develop volunteering opportunities and deliver a community enhancement project to tackle isolation in their rural community”.

Franksbridge CP School in Llandrindod Wells has been awarded £10,000 to carry out improvements to Edw Community Play Area. The project is to make it fully accessible for disabled children and wheelchair users and the money will fund labour and materials for a pathway and sensory wall.

The Llanyre Show, near Llandrindod Wells, was awarded a £10,000 grant for equipment and a storage facility. According to the National Lottery Community fund this will mean their annual show can run, regardless of the weather.

The National Lottery Community Fund is “the largest non-statutory community funder in the UK” and claims “community is at the heart of our purpose, vision and name”.

In their recent announcement, they revealed that more than 110 communities across Wales successfully applied for grants. 

This has led to the fund giving away money to projects across the country awarding a grand total of £2,462,329.
