Illustrated by Chris Jevons and published by Andersen Press, the story of ‘There’s an Alien in my Lunchbox’ is about a little boy who has brought his favourite storybook to school, only for the characters to keep on jumping out and causing mayhem.
Tessa grew up in south east London. After studying drama at Birmingham University, she worked for many years as an actor in touring theatre and on the radio.
She then travelled around the world with her work, but eventually settled in mid Wales. She has lived in the area for over 40 years, as an actor at Theatr Powys, a storyteller at Powys Dance and as a teaching assistant in her local primary school.
She also toured infant schools with her one-woman show and ran preschool story sessions for children and their parents for 15 years.
‘There’s an Alien in my Lunchbox’ is her first book and has taken four years to come together after she graduated from the Golden Egg Academy’s Picture Book Course.
The book’s illustrator, Chris Jevons, worked as graphic designer and a 2D animator, before pursing his career in children’s publishing. He has since illustrated more than 50 picture books and fiction titles worldwide.
Verzon Books and Gallery, established in 1997, features a wide variety of new books for both children and adults, as well as art supplies, greeting cards and gifts.
In addition to the book launch, there is also a free library event at Llandrindod Wells Library on Thursday, August 24, at 2pm, where Tessa will perform a reading of her book for those attending.
