Powys businesses of all sizes enjoyed great success at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.

Food producers were out to show off the best produce the county has to offer in the Food Hall at this year’s show.

Bee Welsh Honey based in Builth Wells is run by Shane Llewelyn-Jones and is renowned for its award-winning varieties of honey that have won multiple awards.

“I currently run just over 200 hives based in and around Mid Wales, we also offer pollination services for bees such as for fruit farms,” said Mr Llewelyn-Jones.

“I started making honey when I was aged 12 with just one hive in the garden – roll forward 35 years, it’s now become a full-time job for me producing Welsh Honey.

“We have Welsh spring honey, then into summer honey. We take the bees up to the heather. We sometimes produce lime honey from the lime blossom trees.”

“The Royal Welsh Show is usually one of the most successful show I attend, I have been showing honey at the Royal Welsh since I was 12.”

This year has been just as successful for Trailhead fine foods and their Get Jerky products based in Welshpool.

Tom Godfrey said the company have had a successful show after business enjoyed a positive year.

“It’s going very well people certainly seem to like the samples but were getting there it’s going very well,” said Mr Godfrey.

“It’s going very well now over the past year or so we’ve started to break out were doing some venison as well as beef. We’re looking to branch out as well – we just hope it carries on like this.”

Radnor Hills has been a success story in the county for years and this year has seen the company reach new heights after getting new deals with Tesco and Tesco Wales. They were also one of the sponsors of this year's show.

Sales director, Chris Sanders, said: “It’s been good. We have two new flavours so on our Heartsease Farms range, a premium presser range, we have apple and rhubarb, and apple and pear. Rhubarb has gone down especially well, that flavour trend is increasing.

“We are very education based and still are, we are the leaders in school drinks but now they have broken up for six weeks and those brands are so popular.”
