A B&B on the Powys border has been found to have the best breakfast in Wales according to the recent AA awards.
The Old Vicarage in Corris, Gwynedd was awarded the AA Breakfast of the Year for Wales gong recently.
Located in the Dulas Valley, The Old Vicarage is a creatively restored country house with a spacious comfortable guest lounge, the ideal setting for afternoon tea.
The AA B&B awards "celebrate the very best of Britain's B&Bs" across eight categories:
- Friendliest B&B of the Year
- Inn of the Year
- Guest Accommodation of the Year for England, Scotland and Wales
- Breakfast of the Year for England, Scotland and Wales.
The owners of The Old Vicarage only moved to Corris two years ago and said they were "humbled" by the accolade.
Kirsty Busfield, owner of The Old Vicarage, said: "We are still new to the industry, having moved to Corris in 2021; so, we’re completely humbled to have been chosen, especially given the high calibre of B&Bs in our country.
"We are incredibly lucky to have some phenomenal producers in and around the Dyfi Biosphere. It really makes our job very easy when designing our seasonal breakfast specials.”
What makes The Old Vicarage's breakfasts the best in Wales?
AA's official rating of The Old Vicarage is 5 stars with their breakfasts being described by the inspectors as "memorable".
The AA inspectors review reads: "Located within the renowned tree-lined Dulas Valley close to Machynlleth, The Old Vicarage is an impressive and creatively restored country house that provides very comfortable bedrooms with stylish en-suite bathrooms.
"There's a spacious comfortable guest lounge, which is the setting for home made afternoon tea cakes.
"Memorable breakfasts ensure a great start to the day and a warm welcome is assured.
"It's an ideal base for walkers, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts."
On Tripadvisor, the popular B&B boasts a 5-star rating from 191 reviews.
One visitor said: "Kirsty was so welcoming and her breakfast was second to none! Beautiful touches such as hand written menu on paper that had been locally made. The breakfast itself was like a 5* meal and had vegan options.
"The room was splendid, that bathroom to die for! We had such a relaxing stay.
"Centre for Alternative Technology is just a mile or so away and that was a fabulous place to visit."
Other AA Awards for B&Bs in Wales
The Old Vicarage was not the only Welsh B&B recognised at the AA Awards.
Parc-le-Breos House in Parkmill (Swansea) was awarded the AA Guest Accommodation of the Year for Wales.
While, Trefloyne Manor in Pembrokeshire was named among the top 15 friendliest B&B's in the UK for 2023 by AA.
