A POWYS motorist has been disqualified from driving for six months and fined over £1,000.
The case of Daniel Johnston has been in the court system for months, with the Abermule man accused of speeding on the Newtown bypass last April.
Johnston, 39, was caught by a speed camera travelling at 75 miles per hour on the bypass, which has a 60mph limit, on April 19, 2022.
Johnston was convicted of the offence on June 21, having been found guilty in his absence of speeding and having failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle, a BMW 530.
Welshpool Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday, July 11, that Johnston – who again was not present – was informed about the prosecution in March and it was proved in his absence on June 4, with sentencing adjourned until June 21.
He was handed six points for each offence and already has six points on his licence for two speeding matters in 2020 and 2021.
Johnston, of Dol y Felin, Abermule, was banned for six months last week. He was also fined £660 and ordered to pay a £264 surcharge, in addition to £85 costs – making a total financial penalty of £1,009.
