A local Women’s Institute group have enjoyed a number of outings that have taken in the past and the future as they picked up accolades for their events.

The Meifod WI, have recently won 3rd prize for the most new members from 2022 to 2023 and were rated as having the 3rd best programme of events for this year.

An example of this was their recent summer outing on June 1 when “happy members all clambered onto two buses to be taken to Whittington Castle.”

Member Bron Roberts said: “On arrival, we were welcomed into the Castle cafe where a sumptuous selection of sandwiches and cakes were served, all washed down by a glass of Prosecco or perhaps by a cup of tea. Well fed and watered, members were then first given an short introductory talk by Sarah Thursfield about the Castles long history.”

OTHER NEWS:

In contrast to this their July meeting in the Village hall involved of an unusual German kitchen item – a Thermomix machine.

This piece of kitchen equipment is well known in Europe but is only now becoming more common in the UK.

“It really is an "all singing all dancing " item which can mix, grind, chop, stir, cook, bake and roast everything from soups, sauces, full dinners and bake bread,” said Ms Roberts.

“The touch screen gives step by step instructions with the most up to date machines connected to WiFi so you can have an app on your Smartphone -the machines are, as to be expected, expensive to buy but for newlyweds or commercial establishments they would be an amazing asset.”
