A Powys-Shropshire border holiday destination recently starred in an episode of a hit Channel 4 series that showcases rural getaways around the UK.
Walcot Hall, in Lydbury North, near Bishop's Castle made an appearance on Extraordinary Escapes, a show hosted by Sandi Toksvig in which she explores beautifully designed holiday hideaways in remote locations across the UK.
In the show, which aired at 9pm on Wednesday (July 5) but available to watch online, Sandi and her guest, comedian Rosie Jones, stayed in the Wheelwrights Shop, a quirky holiday cottage on the Walcot Hall estate.
Walcot Hall said: “Sandi and Rosie arrived on September 8, 2022, a significant day when the news of the Queen's passing saddened the nation.
"The Walcot Team had been working diligently for weeks, pooling their efforts to ensure everything was perfectly prepared for their visit. The team's anticipation and excitement to welcome Sandi and Rosie to Walcot was palpable.
"Countless discussions were held with the producers to determine the ideal activity for them during their stay, ultimately deciding to introduce them to Frazer Picot, our esteemed resident blacksmith, who also features prominently in the show.
“The presence of Sandi, Rosie, and the entire crew at Walcot was an absolute delight. They quickly developed a deep affection for Walcot Hall and the picturesque surroundings, showering us with heartfelt compliments.
"Sandi playfully remarked that we would have to endure her presence again, as she intended to return.
"The Walcot Team, many of whom avidly watch the show, were overjoyed when they reached out to us and requested our participation. Their excitement was contagious and further fuelled their dedication to making the experience exceptional.”
The Wheelwrights Shop, the wood cabin dating back to the 1840s where Sandi and Rosie stayed, was once a wheel repair shop but has been reinvented as a rural escape. It has been renovated with reclaimed furniture and upcycled antiques, while retaining its authentic features like uneven timbers, mottled walls and bare floorboards.
As well as hosting holidaymakers in its accommodation, Walcot Hall is a popular wedding venue offering bespoke ceremonies and receptions.
It has 30 acres of grounds, including an arboretum, a lake, a walled courtyard, a fountain and a variety of floral displays.
