AN £84k lottery grant is set to breathe new life into a Powys village.
Young people and the community in Gladestry are set to get a new bespoke playground and community outdoor space thanks to grants from the The National Lottery and other supporters.
The village hall play area will transformed following engagement with the users of the playground and residents of the village to see what they would like their new play area to look like and how it is used.
Grants totalling £84,000 will be used to replace the existing playground and will include covered seating, six brand new pieces of play equipment, picnic benches, fencing and surfacing.

Volunteers on the playground committee submitted applications to various funding sources;
A spokesperson said: “Our first funding came from the All Wales Play Opportunities Grant Scheme, which was funded by Welsh Government and administered by Powys County Council. The largest donation to the play area came from The National Lottery who awarded us around £69,000. We are grateful to Tarmac who agreed to fund the remaining £5,300 to meet the VAT bill on the project.
“Thanks go to all the people who have given their time, advice and support to this project, and to Dragon Play and Sports Ltd for bringing our ideas to life.”
Work started to remove the existing playground this month and is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
Cllr Edward Jones said: “Our old unit has served the community very well for at least three decades but these generous grants will enable us to provide colourful, challenging and exciting new play opportunities for children of all ages and an improved community space for everyone to enjoy.”
