An investigation has been launched after a microlight aircraft crash landed in a field between Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion which left two people in a stable condition in hospital.

The aircraft lost power and collided with the ground near the A458 road near Cyfronydd and Castle Caereinion at around 8pm on Tuesday (June 13).

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has confirmed that an investigation has been launched after it was notified of the crash on Tuesday evening.

Two casualties were out of the aircraft when emergency services arrived on the scene but were later taken to hospital by ambulance after receiving first aid from firefighters.

Dyfed-Powys Police said on Wednesday (June 14) that the two occupants of the aircraft remain in a “stable” condition in hospital.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said a crew did first aid on the casualties while waiting for the ambulance service to arrive.

The nearby A458 was closed between Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion on Tuesday evening while the large emergency service response worked at the scene to make the area safe. The road reopened at around 10.10pm.

A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 8.09pm on Tuesday, June 13, the Welshpool crew were called to an incident near Castle Caereinion.

“One microlight aircraft had lost power and collided with the ground, two casualties were released from the aircraft prior to the crew’s arrival. 

“The crew administered first aid while waiting for the ambulance service and assisted the ambulance crew in conveying the casualties to waiting ambulances. 

“Dyfed-Powys Police were also in attendance and the nearby road was closed while the incident was ongoing.”
