The keys to a new state of the art fire engine has been handed over to Newtown Fire Station.

The appliance has an 1,800-litre capacity, foam tank for dealing with oil fires, ladders and ropes for working at height, and power tools to deal with road collisions.

Station commander Andrew Richards said: "This is here now and will be serving the community for year to come.

OTHER NEWS:

"After a period of time every fire engine comes to the end of its workable life. This is taking ownership of the new applicant. The crew have had the training on it, now they’re up to speed with it, and the driving that comes with it it’s good to go.

County Times:

"It’s newer, laid out better and from a manual handling point of view it can pick things up."

Watch Manager Mike Wareing added: "It’s nice to have another new appliance to help the local community that we deal with. It helps to keep the morale up of the people."

The new appliance joins two fire engines, a heavy pump unit which can go anywhere in the UK including incidents such as flooding near the River Thames and Yorkshire.

Newtown Fire Station is one of four strategic locations in Wales.
