A HUNGARIAN man who admits drink driving will return to court later this month to be sentenced.
Mihaly Eszlatyi, from Knighton, admitted one charge of drink driving at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court this week, but due to the high reading of alcohol in his system he cannot be sentenced without a report being conducted.
The 41-year-old provided a reading of 91 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was pulled over in Knighton on May 10 – the legal limit is 35 micrograms.
Prosecutor Rebecca Ross said on Tuesday, May 30, that Eszlatyi was stopped at around 3.10pm on May 10 driving a Kia Sportage.
“Police were on patrol in Knighton and observed a car driving along Broad Street into West Street,” she said.
“They noticed the occupants and the driver was the defendant. They stopped the vehicle and PC Scott could smell intoxicants and said the defendant’s eyes were red. A roadside test was positive and he was arrested. He has no previous convictions.”
Eszlatyi, of Laurels Meadow, Knighton, will return to court for sentencing on June 13, with magistrates telling him that due to the high level of alcohol a community order punishment is required. They imposed an interim driving ban.
