A NEWTOWN nail salon and academy that has clients waiting months for an appointment has been named the best in Wales – and the second best in the whole of the UK.
Nail Envy’s Jodie Evans, who also runs the award-winning Mid Wales Nail Academy, has been building her successful businesses for almost a decade after finding a gap in the mid Wales’ beauty industry market.
She said: “To win means an awful lot and my family put so much into this as well. I have the most amazing client base and I wouldn’t be here without them.
“I love my job and I’m grateful to everybody for supporting my business and I’m happy to keep sharing it with everybody and I can’t wait to meet more students.”

Jodie moved into the former wool shop in Market Street in 2019 just before the pandemic hit and this year won the Education Excellence Award and Best Nail Salon in Wales, and second place for Best Nail Salon at The UK Hair and Beauty Awards.
“My passion came from what I was doing,” she said. “People wanted to learn my techniques and we created this space, and they get the best from what I give and it come from the heart. I’ve been lucky to work with the biggest brands out there.
“Moving to Newtown was the best thing I ever did. I love living here and I love the people.
“I have the most amazing client base. I wouldn’t be here without them. You can’t help but become closer to each other.
"This whole salon is based on one in and one out and they do whatever they want in those two hours; they discuss their needs; outcomes and we have a giggle and a chat, and it is personal and you can’t not spend that time and not get to know them on a personal level.
"I have ladies who don’t have much family and I become their family, they take me on board.
“I’m very lucky to be as busy as I am right now but I do wish the town itself gets more businesses and a lot more support. We do have great things around here and its does get overlooked.
“Let’s celebrate the good, there’s so many hard-working people in town. Recently having business rate relief is so helpful; I wouldn’t have survived without that. We’ve got to be grateful for that and people are quick to dismiss the council, but I think they’ve been super supportive. I don’t think I would be here if it wasn’t for them as well.
“My business is doing well, and it is thriving and if you work hard enough it can happen.”
