Bargain Hunt star Charles Hanson is heading to Newtown to reveal secrets from the world of antiques – and you can also get your items valued by the celebrity auctioneer too.

Charles, who is well-known for his appearances on hit BBC daytime shows such as Antiques Road Trip, will be at The Hafren Theatre on Tuesday, June 20, from noon until 2pm where he will share entertaining anecdotes amassed during more than 20 years working as an auctioneer and auction house owner.

After his talk members of the audience can have their heirlooms valued by a man renowned for uncovering finds that go on to achieve sensational prices under the hammer.

Charles, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “I can’t wait to meet the people of Powys and discover what they have tucked away in the attic, garage or even under the bed. I love meeting people and sharing stories about my life in the antiques business.

“I hope we make some great finds on the day and, perhaps, pave the way to an auction windfall. Recently a single cup I spotted on a kitchen shelf made £3,200 at auction.

“It turned out to be an example of a cup made more than 100 years ago for passengers on the Titanic, the ship that famously sank in 1912 after hitting an iceberg.

“The cobalt blue and gilt design was made by Liner china firm Spode for Stoney & Co in Liverpool. The cup bore the pattern number R4332 which was exclusively reserved for the Titanic. Mementos like this bring history back to life.

“A fabulous Welsh find making big news is an Easter egg given to a little girl in 1939. She couldn’t bring herself to eat it because of wartime rationing and saved it for her entire life.”

Tickets, priced £2.50, can be booked through the theatre’s website. To reserve a seat, visit www.thehafren.co.uk or call 01686 948100.
