The Mayor of Newtown says it is a “great honour” to have been re-elected by fellow councillors for a second term.
Councillor John Byrne said he is keen for Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council to continue working on projects that improve the area for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Councillor Byrne, who represents the east of Newtown including the town centre, said: “I am keen to continue the progressive work that the council has already achieved, whilst also assisting and enabling on projects which will only enhance our town and the communities within it.

“Let’s continue to support and work together, as a team, to improve Newtown for our residents, businesses and visitors.”
Councillor Mike Childs will also serve as deputy mayor for a second term after a unanimous decision at the council’s annual meeting on Monday, May 22.
Ed Humphreys, council clerk, said: “On behalf of all staff I welcome the returning Mayor and Deputy Mayor to office for the next 12 months. Within their roles their duties are to primarily chair council meetings and to undertake civic ceremonial as first citizen and ambassador for the town.
“Both roles can be demanding and time consuming, so the staff and I very much look forward to supporting them whilst in office”.
