More than £10,000 has been raised for cancer research by a Powys fundraising committee.
The local Cancer Research UK Fundraising Committee at Llanfair Caereinion organised a series of events over the last year and announced at their latest annual general meeting that they had raised £10,336.
Chairman of the fundraising Committee Margaret Hughes, said: “We are delighted with the amount of funds raised during the year by our local Committee in support of the work of Cancer Research UK.
“I would like to thank all the committee members for their hard work during the year and to all who have contributed and supported our efforts.
"We have held a series of different events throughout the year which have been well supported and attended and we are grateful to the local community for their generosity towards this most worthy cause.”

Event put on by the committee included a coffee morning in the spring of 2022, afternoon tea at Rhosaflo during the summer and a traditional carol singing Plygain at Moreia chapel in January 2023.
The committee also benefitted from donations received from a variety of sources - including donations received from the local Sunday School and from a collection held at Ebenezer Chapel, as well as donations received in memory of the late Buddug Owen and Bill Charles.
The committee funds also praised the efforts of Links Electrical Ltd who have organised a number of events to support Cancer Research UK as their chosen charity during the year – including a golf day, a sponsored run and a marathon run – helping to double the committee's efforts.
David Poyner and Graeme Morgan, of Links Electrical Ltd, said in joint statement: “We were pleased to be associated with Llanfair Caereinion Cancer Committee and congratulations on their success for the year raising such an amazing amount.”
Fundraising efforts have continued into the new financial year with a recent Fashion Show held at the Royal Oak in Welshpool on April 5 showcasing the international fashions from Kathy Gittins, raising over £1,550.
Committee Member Ann Watkin-Jones is taking part in the national charity challenge to walk a 100 miles in May and is raising sponsorship for the charity through her efforts and there are plans to hold the Plygain again at Moreia Chapel in Llanfair Caereinion on January 6, 2024.
