Llanfyllin has chosen its new town mayor in the form of a familiar face stepping back into the role.

Cllr Peter Lewis was selected as the new Mayor of Llanfyllin at a Town Council meeting on Wednesday, May 17, just over a year after he was succeeded by the mayor who he himself is now succeeding.

He will be stepping into the role in place of Cllr Alison Alexander, who is resigning from her position as mayor after 12 months in the role to focus more on her environmental work with her group Building Resilience Against Climate Emergency (BRACE).

“Firstly, I’d like to thank Alison who is retiring from the Council, making the bold decision to leave the council after a year as Mayor.  Being Mayor is a tough job and I would like to wish Alison the best in her future ventures.

“This is a very exciting time for the council, with Llanfyllin being chosen as one of three towns in Powys to be considered for Town Centre regeneration Funding.

“This is a once in a generation opportunity for Llanfyllin to benefit from funding to give the Town a boost and facelift.

County Times:

“I am proud of Llanfyllin Town, and all the supportive work that has gone on to ensure no shops are boarded up which is fantastic compared to neighbouring Towns.

“We as a Town Council must not take this for granted, and must help keep and try to increase the footfall on our streets.

“We need to look at ways to increase parking spaces in the car park  as this seems to be always full.

“As you know we are waiting to see if we are successful for funding to provide the large cost of installing Electric Car charging points in the car park which will allow people to stop and charge their cars and discover Llanfyllin.

“As you can see there is much to do and a lot of work to do for this Council. If we can all work closely together as councillors we can achieve much and move forward.”
