A SPEEDY young driver has been chastised by magistrates and warned to kill his speed, before he kills someone else, or himself, after he was prosecuted for driving 65 miles an hour through a 30mph zone in Powys.
Ryan Gareth Hamer was warned “you are not indestructible” after the 21-year-old admitted one charge of speeding and another of driving with a faulty tyre at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court this week.
Hamer was stopped by Dyfed Powys Police officer PC Cook after being caught travelling at 65mph through a 30mph zone in Churchstoke on November 29 last year.
A check of the Bishops Castle resident’s Audi A4 car also found that the tread of its front nearside tyre was also below the legal limit.
Hamer had admitted both offences via post but his presence at court was ordered due to the speed.

At court on Tuesday, May 16, magistrates were told that PC Cook had been conducting speed checks on the A489 on the morning of November 29 and was stood in the centre of carriageway when she signalled for the driver of the Audi to stop.
Hamer, who works on a chicken farm, explained he was late back off a work break and was rushing. The vehicle was checked and the tyre’s tread was found to be very low. He said he didn’t realise it was illegally low.
Hamer, of Colebatch, Bishops Castle, asked the court to give him penalty points instead of a driving ban, explaining that he is suffering “financial hardship”.
“The officer explained to me that the tyres were low, which I already knew,” said Hamer, speaking in his own defence.
“She said she’d let me off if I went immediately to the garage, which I’ve done. She said that, verbally. I had to wait for pay day as I’m struggling. But I’ve still been done. I have nothing to say about speeding.”
Hammer added: “The impact (of a ban) would make my life hard, in terms of getting to work and getting to places.”
Hamer was fined £373 and told to pay a £149 surcharge and £90 costs. They placed 6 points on his licence.
Chair of the bench, Anthony Jackson, said: “You are heading for a ban if you continue to drive in this manner. Trust me, you are not indestructible. Cars kill.
“You are 21 years old. The highest proportion of incidents of death on the road happen to people in the 17-24 age bracket.
“The reason for a speed limit is to protect you, passengers and the public. You were driving with a slippery tyre. This is not acceptable. You now need to think about this.”
