MARK Hammond will be the next mayor of Builth Wells after being voted in this week.

Councillor Hammond was voted in as mayor at Builth Wells Town Council’s monthly meeting on Tuesday night, while former mayor Gwyn Davies has been chosen as his deputy.

“Last night (May 16) brought the end of the current municipal year for Builth Wells Town Council, and the election by council members of the mayor and deputy mayor for the forthcoming year,” the council said in a post on its Facebook page.

“I am delighted to let you know that Councillor Mark Hammond was voted in as mayor, and Councillor Gwyn Davies was voted in as deputy mayor.”

Clerk Louise Hammond said the council continues to work towards helping to improve the environment and wellbeing of the community and shared the many achievements over the last 12 months.

These included a family fun day held in the summer of 2022, which was a huge success, attracting over 400 people, as well as the Mayor’s charity event, which this year took on the theme of Peaky Blinders and raised over £3,500 for Dementia Matters.

“Our town councillors, who are all unpaid volunteers and give up their own time to help the community, remain a dedicated team and will continue to work hard in order to see how they can develop and improve on what the council does over the forthcoming year,” said Mrs Hammond.
