West Mercia Police have said the the road will be closed for several hours as teams from the Police and Shropshire Council clear the scene.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "I can confirm we received report of a two vehicle collision between a lorry and a car on the main A458 just past Halfway House near to Plas Y Court Farm at around 11.10am today.
"The incident is still ongoing so we can’t comment any further at this stage."
The accident could be set to delay train travel in the area as a bus replacement service is running on the Cambrian Line this month as maintenance takes place on the tracks.
Transport for Wales have warned that whilst there are no current delays this could change as traffic gets heavier later in the day.
A Transport for Wales spokesperson said: “Due to a road closure as a result of an earlier road traffic collision, the rail replacement services are currently being diverted.
"Customers are advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys as they may be subject to delays.”
