Welshpool Town Council is discussing the possibility of installing new changing rooms for the women’s football team to go with the town’s new pitches.
As Welshpool Town FC prepares to kick off a new era with a series of new pitches in Maesydre, the Town Council discussed a proposal to include new changing rooms for the women’s team at a meeting on April 26.
The council raised the idea as a way to include new changing facilities for the women’s team that are closer to the centre of the new group of pitches by the current grounds at Maesydre.
Cllr Alison Davies said: “Issue is that there are many girls now playing in a team suffering from a lack of women’s changing rooms.

“With new pitches they are finding more and more women want to join so we need to think about this issue.”
Cllr Nick Howells added: “I’ve been down there and I agree, the walk from the nearest changing rooms to the far end of the new pitch is quite a stretch so we desperately need a changing facility.”
Cllr Estelle Bleivas said: “Women’s football is taking off and if we get into it at grassroots level that’s all the better. Everyone needs to give the women and girls the chance to do something, give something back with adequate facilities.”
The council agreed to support the proposal in principle, but requested more information on the location and scale of the planned facilities before giving full approval.
