Street parties to mark the coronation of King Charles III could be a rare sight in Llanidloes.
Llanidloes Town Council arranged a public meeting on February 28 to gauge interest in organising events to mark the occasion. However councillors were told earlier this week that only one person turned up.
Llanidloes Mayor Cllr Jamie Jones said: “We had a rousing turnout, hundreds here. Actually, there was only one member of the public and four of us [councillors]. We gave the public a chance. We tried and we didn’t get much help.”
The meeting on Monday evening (April 24) heard that organisers of previous royal events in the town, and schools were “not interested”.
Councillor Margot Jones said: “In days gone by, we would have given mugs out to children but there’s no money.”

The mayor replied: “It was about £11,000. We couldn’t justify it.”
Town Clerk Sonia Pritchard added: “Maybe we could justify it by buying new play equipment.”
To mark the historic occasion, a civic ceremony will be held at St Idloes Church on Sunday, May 7.
Over in Trefeglwys, a ‘Right Royal Party’ will be held at the Memorial Hall from 2pm until late on Sunday, May 7.
Everyone is welcome to come attend where there will be an afternoon tea, hog roast, royal fancy dress, children’s games and face painting, scavenger hunt, and televised coronation concert.
A memorabilia exhibition will be held inside St Michael’s Church and a concert by Relative Harmony at Zoar Chapel.
