Welshpool's tourist information centre has enjoyed strong footfall in recent months, with an overhaul of the site deemed a success.

At a meeting of the Town Council’s Tourism and Events Committee, the centre’s manager presented a report on the work of the Tourist Information Centre.

The report concerned the footfall through the centre, how the sale of train tickets and holidays from the centre and other matters pertaining to the facility.

The manager of the centre reported that there has been a lot of footfall through the centre throughout March and April, that the recent Easter Egg Hunt based from the centre “went really well”. Visitors were also reportedly using the centre to book train journeys and day trips.

Cllr Alison Davies added: “What we like to see is local people using it as a source for information. While it may be called the Tourist Information centre it should be a useful facility for everyone in the area, not just visitors."

The centre also reported taking in an estimated £12,000 from products sold at the facility, such as silk scarves, calendars and pictures of the Powys area.

Cllr Davies added: “It’s good to see all these goods making a difference, using space in the Information Centre and also turning a profit while the centre continues to fulfil its function, supplying the town it was designed to deliver.”

Town Clerk Anne Wilson said: “Lots of the things in stock meet our environmental goals as well, with lots of sustainable items being brought in for sale.”
