A POWYS woman will be sentenced next month after she changed her plea and admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Hayley Green, from Bronllys, near Brecon, had originally denied dangerous driving when she appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court in December, but at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Wednesday, April 19, she was rearraigned on the charge and entered a guilty plea.
Green, 30, was driving a BMW on the A483 between Howey and Llandrindod Wells on December 14, 2020, when she was in a crash with another vehicle – one which left the other driver, Kevin Kmiec, with a fractured pelvis and shattered hip.
Green's BMW crashed into Mr Kmiec’s vehicle. He was said to have been left trapped in his vehicle following the incident and had to be airlifted to hospital by air ambulance.
Mr Kmiec suffered fractures to his pelvis, a shattered hip, nerve damage and bruising to his chest and upper body during the incident, which required two major operations, and he struggles with ongoing problems as a result of the crash.
The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be conducted, with Green’s sentencing hearing listed for May 18.
Her Honour, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, told Green she is now disqualified from driving from this moment, and that an exact period of disqualification will be decided at her sentencing hearing.
