A MULTI award-winning businesswoman from Llanidloes has been confirmed as the new president for independent retailers in the West Midlands.

Trudy Davies, of Woosnam & Davies News, said she is “honoured” to become District President for all the West Midlands branches of The Federation of Independent Retailers.

She has been a member for 27 years.

She said: “I will during my presidency strive to help and support each and every member as well as help drive forward the changes needed to enhance the organisation to be more resilient and ready for the challenges that all independent retailers will face in the future.”

Trudy has held posts including National Councillor and Vice President within the federation for the West Midlands area and is also currently secretary of Shropshire branch.

Trudy added: “I am honoured that all the West Midlands branches have put their faith in me with a full vote of confidence during their AGM which was held in March.

“I am looking forward to working alongside all other UK district presidents, national councillors and officials of ‘The Fed’.

“I will endeavour to forge some great alliances between our trade media and trade partners.

The Federation of Independent Retailers, also known simply as The Fed, was founded more than a century ago in 1919.

The Fed is one of the largest employers’ associations, supporting over 10,000 independent retailers and small businesses.

Earlier this year Trudy’s tireless commitment to helping good causes and the local community led to her winning a national award from The Fed.

She was presented with the Community Champion award at a glittering ceremony hosted by BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty in London.

Trudy is also the secretary of the group that runs the Millennium Community Garden in Llanidloes and is a Royal British Legion standard bearer - representing the town for 41 years – and Poppy Appeal collector.

The Fed’s National President Jason Birks said: “Trudy and her team at Woosnam and Davies have gone far more than the extra mile for their community and are very deserving of our Community Champion award.

“They demonstrate commitment to every facet of the community, day in, day out, with an exhaustive list of activities and initiatives.

“Support is given to everyone and everything, from Dementia Friends to the Dogs Trust and from the Carnival Committee to a Community Fridge, while the installation of defibrillators and bleed kits are major contributions to care and safety in the area.”
