PLANS to reinvigorate a dilapidated children’s play area in Llanwrtyd Wells received a cracking boost over Easter.
The Llanwrtyd Community Play Park Project is a small group of local mothers trying to raise funds for the regeneration of the children's play equipment at the town’s Dolwen Fields site.
The group says it needs £80,000 to revamp the area, with £800 raised for the fund pot from a very successful Easter event on Saturday, April 8.
Unfortunately, most of the current play equipment is past its prime or has been removed due to the timber being completely rotten and unsafe.
The equipment that remains on the field is in desperate need of repair or replacing. Sadly, only a few pieces of play equipment remain in a suitable and safe condition for local children.
Ebony Halliwell, a member of the group, said: “We'd like to be able to provide a great place for everyone to use.
“The benefits would be amazing for everyone – not only for mental health reasons but also to encourage fitness and socialising in a safe environment.”
With play equipment very expensive to purchase, the group are fundraising themselves in the hope of being able to replace the equipment with something suitable for children and young people of all ages.

It is also hoped that providing new play equipment will bring people to the park as opposed to local children and families visiting play areas in bigger neighbouring towns.
Over the Easter weekend, an Easter scavenger hunt was organised, with a fantastic turnout of support and sunshine. The Llanwrtyd and District Heritage and Arts Centre donated all ticket sales to the project.
The afternoon featured a whole host of entertainment at Dolwen Fields which included a table-top sale, children’s crafts, facepainting, a raffle and refreshments. Entertainment was provided by the Small-Town Samba Band.
The Llanwrtyd Community Play Park Project is grateful to everyone who supported and contributed in any way to the success of the event. Generous raffle prizes donated included: an Easter basket from LWAS Petrol Station; a garden planter by Welding Mid Wales; a doggie goody bag worth over £50 from J R Pets Ltd; and a tea for two voucher, chocolates and a donation from Caffi Sosban.
The Llanwrtyd Wells Twinning Association also donated all proceeds from their pancake stall on the day to the project. A total of £800 from the day will go towards the equipment funds.
