A CHARITY bike rally is offering a unique experience in Welshpool.
Cymru Knievels is an annual motorcycle rally across Wales that sees participants dressed as the legendary stunt rider Evil Knievel to raise money for charity - this year it will be for the NSPCC.
As part of the fundraising they are auctioning a unique experience in Welshpool.
Steffan Thomas who has gained the nickname “Biggles Knievel” will be auctioning the opportunity to enjoy a flight experience from the town’s airport.
“I’ve had my licence for the last 10 years, but have been flying in light aircraft with my dad who is also a pilot since I was six weeks old,” said Mr Thomas.
“Taking people up with me is always a privilege, to my mind it’s one of the best ways to see the countryside around us.

“So, when thinking how I could attract some sponsorship this year, I thought I could donate a flight in exchange for a donation to the fundraiser.”
Mr Thomas who previously lived just outside Wrexham before moving to Anglesey got involved with the event after listening to tales from a colleague who was involved – “When he showed me pictures of everyone dressed in their suits and the laughter that would be had, my wife and I decided we had to join the fun.”
The winner of the prize will be offered a space for three people and will be must for anyone who has ever been interested in being a pilot.
“Leading up to the flight I’ll discuss options with the winning bidder about where we might go. It could be that we go looking for their house, or out to the coast,” said Mr Thomas.
“The flight will depart from and return to Welshpool airport. The aeroplane is also dual control, so once in the air there will be a chance for the winning bidder to take control and fly the plane too.”

Cymru Knievels began in 2012 to raise £1,000 for a charity which had supported a family member of founder Jason Lewis, however the scope has grown since then.
“Our initial goal this year is to raise over £15,000 for children's charity NSPCC,” said Mr Lewis. “We have a history of smashing our targets and we hope we can raise over £20,000. Since 2012 we have now raised over £200,000.”
“The event grew with others wishing to join me on my plan to motorcycle the outer perimeter lanes of Wales.”
This year the rally will be passing through Powys multiple times as the route follows a figure of eight around Wales multiple times and are expecting at least 50 Cymru Knievels being involved and Mr Lewis is welcoming Powys bikers “to come along and join us at our official stops.”
