Last year’s winner of the Nobel Peace Prize will be attending this year’s Hay on Wye festival.

The Literary Festival has announced that Oleksandra Matviichuk who founded the Ukrainian human rights organisation Center for Civil Liberties which won the Nobel Peace prize in 2022 will be appearing at this year's event.

Ms Matviichuk will be hosting a talk at the festival discussing her work which has fought for more democratic rights in Ukraine and documenting Russian war crimes since the invasion of the country.

The Nobel Committee praised the work and said the organisation was "playing a pioneering role in holding guilty parties accountable for their crimes".

This was just one of 41 additional events in the latest announcement by the festival which will also see 36 events held by the BBC.

Hay Festival CEO Julie Finch said: “Here is a special bundle of Easter treats for Haymakers everywhere as we share even more events to inspire and spark debate at Hay Festival 2023.

“We are delighted to be expanding our work with the BBC this year, welcoming Festival favourites from BBC Radio 4, Radio 3, Radio Wales and Radio Hereford & Worcester alongside new programming with 5 Live and BBC Academy, opening access to Festival inspiration further. Join us on site or from afar; everyone is welcome.”

These will include live recordings of some of the county’s most popular podcasts such as You’re dead to me with Greg Jenner as well as insight from the team behind the sensational I’m Not A Monster podcast where they will share an inside look at The Shamima Begum Story. Renowned journalist and documentary maker Jon Ronson will also be discussing his hugely popular series Things Fall Apart.

There will also be a first ever live preview being read on stage by the stars of the Radio 4 soap the Archers as well as live recordings of the News Quiz and Start the Week.
