HOWEY WI members welcomed a medieval visitor to their most recent meeting, as Llandrindod Wells’ female town crier Janice Swindale was the guest speaker.
How many hats does a town crier need? Well, it seems if your training started at age four, dancing on stage and progressing through pantomime, music hall, Victorian Festival performances, events to raise money for charity, to announcing national days of celebration and remembrance, over a period of many years, then the answer is a very considerable number, ending with the very splendid hat of a town crier.

Howey WI thoroughly enjoyed the trip down memory lane. The props, costumes, newspaper cuttings and photographs certainly helped to bring back those memories.
And so many of us have enjoyed the very professional and enjoyable performances given over the years by Janice, who seems tireless in her contagious enthusiasm. Hear ye, Hear ye, Hear ye – long may she continue to entertain.
