MAJOR roads across Powys were closed or are due to close because of the extreme snowy weather today.
The B4368 at Abermule is currently impassable, as of 4.50pm, due to the snowy weather, according to traffic service Inrix.
But Traffic Wales confirmed that the A44 road from Llangurig to Aberystwyth has reopened, having been closed because of treacherous conditions in the Cambrian Mountains.
The road between Ponterwyd to Llangurig was announced to have reopened at 11.49am, after Dyfed Powys Police had previous said the road was shut.
On the A44 further south in Powys, residents and motorists posted pictures of how the snowfall is adversely affecting road conditions.
Jason Owen, posting on the Mid Powys Community Travel Alerts Facebook page, said: “The A44 from Llandegley to Kington is passable with extreme care, snow drifts have reduced it to one lane in places, mainly over the forest.”
The Fforest Inn pub, located on the side of the A44 above Hundred House, just outside Llanfihangel-nant-Melan, posted on its Facebook page: “We may be closed, but doesn't mean we can't provide travel updates. I've just taken these.”
The pub – which is believed to be one of the highest located in Powys, and which announced earlier this month it was closing at the end of February due to soaring energy costs, added: “Only seen a couple of cars in the last 30 minutes – all 4x4. Best to avoid travel past us for now if you can.”

Further north, the A458 Welshpool to Dinas Mawddwy road closed due to the weather, with an HGV getting stuck there on Golfa Bank, just outside Welshpool on the way to Llanfair Caereinion, earlier this morning.
Dyfed-Powys Police said: “The A458 Welshpool to Dinas Mawddwy will be closing due to treacherous conditions.
“Council have been informed and are en route. Please take an alternative route and drive safely.”
