STUDENTS were placed in lockdown at Newtown High School on Friday after an intruder reported to have a blade scaled a perimeter fence.
On Friday, March 3, parents of the students at Newtown High School, received a letter from headteacher Robert Edwards and the Chair of Governors Jo Banks.
The letter included the reason for the pupils being stuck in classrooms, after an ex-student climbed over the perimeter fencing and “made threats and produced a bladed article.”
It reads: “The matter was handled swiftly and within minutes the young person had been challenged and detained by police in the vicinity of the school.

“Once the school was satisfied that the matter was in hand with the police, pupils were allowed to leave school as normal, a minute or two after the bell had sounded.
“Establishing the safety of pupils will always be the primary concern of the school.”
The letter then assured the parents that the matter is now with the Dyfed-Powys Police, as the school is providing full cooperation.
Dyfed-Powys Police has been approached for a comment.
