A man has been found not guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a woman was hit by a car near Welshpool while walking with her horse and daughter.
Jane Tibbott was airlifted to hospital after suffering a bleed on the brain, obstruction to her airway and a fractured ankle after she was hit by a Volkswagen Touran along the B4388 in Leighton on New Year’s Eve (December 31) in 2020.
George Richard Warren, 67, who was driving the people carrier, appeared in Welshpool Magistrates’ Court almost 18 months after the collision happened to deny the charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The court heard in July 2022 that Mr Warren was "dazzled by the sun and unable to see" Ms Tibbott who was walking along the road with her daughter and horse.
After hearing evidence from the prosecution and defence, magistrates decided to send the case for a trial in front of a judge at a crown court.
Mr Warren, of Wallasey Village, Wirral was acquitted following a trial at Mold Crown Court which ended earlier this week.
