A man travelled six miles to raise the alarm after a walker slipped and injured his knee at a notorious mobile phone black spot near a Powys waterfall.
Mountain rescuers were able to find the injured man near the foot of Rhiwargor Falls at Lake Vyrnwy thanks to a passer-by who walked to a car and drove to the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Spa to use their phone.
The rescue, which happened at around 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday (January 2), involved the injured man being stretchered for more than a kilometre to the car park before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team said: "The area is a notorious mobile phone black-spot, and the informant, a walker who had encountered the party, had to travel six miles to a nearby hotel to raise the alarm. He had then returned to the casualty to further help stabilise the situation.
"The injured man did not report much pain at rest but the knee would not support him when trying to walk. Having waited for the alarm to be raised, and then for the Team to reach him, he was also starting to feel the cold.
"The injured knee was splinted for support, then the man was transported by stretcher to the car-park, where family members were able to transport him to further hospital-based assessment and treatment. Everyone was off the hill and back at vehicles by 8pm."
A dedicated team of volunteers at Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team provide an emergency rescue service to save lives of those most in need throughout mid Wales from Bala in the north, Newtown in the east, Llanidloes in the south and Tywyn in the west.
The Team continues its fundraising efforts which enables volunteers to respond to calls for help in wild and remote areas such as Cadair Idris, Aran Fawddwy and Plumlumon.
