Firefighters from across north and mid Powys tackled a fire overnight at a recycling centre in Welshpool.

Crews from Llandrindod Wells, Montgomery, Llanfyllin and Welshpool were called to the incident at Potters waste management and recycling facility during the early hours of this morning (Thursday, January 5).

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said an unspecified amount of recyclable material was well alight inside a brick storage bund when crews arrived at the yard in Henfaes Lane at 12.36am. Firefighters managed to put out the fire using around 25 litres of foam.

Potters said today that their Welshpool site is open and up and running as usual.

In a statement, the fire service said: "At 12.26am on Thursday January 5, crews from Welshpool, Llandrindod Wells, Montgomery and Llanfyllin were called to an incident at the Potters Waste Management & Recycling Facility in Welshpool.

"On arrival, an unspecified amount of recyclable material was well alight, within a brick storage bund, measuring approximately 10mx6m. Crews used four breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets and one main foam branch, using approximately 25 litres of foam.

"Crews continued to dampen down and left the scene at 1.58am."

Dyfed-Powys Police also attended the incident saying that officers were made aware of a fire at Potters Yard at just after 12.30am today.

"The fire service was already in attendance, and the blaze was extinguished by 2.45am," a police spokeswoman added.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
