A man is set to appear at crown court later this month accused of attempting to murder two people in Newtown.

Charles Edward George Pears, 26, has been remanded in custody ahead of his appearance on Friday, December 16 at either Mold or Caernarfon Crown Court.

Dyfed-Powys Police said two people were taken to hospital, one of which was rushed to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, for treatment after sustaining injuries in the attack.

Pears was initially arrested on suspicion of assault after police and paramedics were called to a house near the Pryce Jones building in Old Kerry Road at around 11.45am on Wednesday, November 23, following reports that two people were seriously hurt.

Emergency services including two ambulances and two rapid response vehicles were sent to the street behind Burger King which was cordoned off by police officers for several hours. Police vehicles were also outside the house on Thursday, November 24, while officers continued their investigation.

Pears, who lives in Old Kerry Road, was later charged with two counts of attempted murder and was remanded in custody after appearing at Wrexham Magistrates' Court on Friday, November 25.

The condition of the two injured people is not currently known.
