A learner driver caught riding an electric scooter has been banned from holding a licence for six months because of his repeat offending.

Ciaran Martin Angelus Keith King, 18, and a provisional licence holder, did not display 'L' plates on the front and back of the scooter he was riding along a Newtown street.

He pleaded guilty to two offences - driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and without insurance - and received six penalty points and ordered to pay a total of £220 in court fines and costs.

Court records show that King was pulled over by police in Park Street, Newtown at around 8.38pm on Friday, April 8.

King, of Treowen, Newtown, was ordered by Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Friday, November 18, to pay a £96 fine, £90 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge for driving without third-party insurance.

Magistrates decided not to fine him for riding an e-scooter without a driver's licence for that class of motor vehicle but the disqualification was "obligatory" due to King's repeat offending.
