A POWYS man with no previous known allergy to wasps died after suffering a severe anaphylactic reaction to being stung.
Stephen George Jones, who was 63, died on Saturday, May 28, this year following being stung by a wasp or several wasps while at work in Brecon the previous day.
An inquest into Mr Jones’ death earlier this month heard that he was working at the Infantry Battle School based at the Dering Lines Army base, in Brecon, on May 27 this year when the incident happened.
A spokesperson for Pontypridd Coroner's Court, where his inquest was concluded last Tuesday (October 18) said Mr Jones was “stung by a wasp or wasps whilst at work and developed a severe anaphylactic reaction”.
“Despite prompt treatment at the scene and at hospital, he did not survive, and sadly died on 28th May at the University Hospital of Wales. He was not known to have this allergy prior to the fatal incident.”
Coroner Graeme Hughes recorded a verdict of accidental death.
