A BAND whose members hail from Powys and Shropshire are playing a gig at Knucklas Community Centre this weekend as they bid to help fund the release of their debut album.
Shop Front Heroes will be performing from 7pm on Saturday, October 29, together with support from Huckworm.
The gig coincides with a Hallowe’en party being held to raise funds for the album which the band recorded locally before getting it mastered at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London.
“This Hallowe’en weekend we are trying to do something a little special at Knucklas Community Centre,” said frontman Stevie Yeomans.
“With the help of the committee, Shop Front Heroes are playing a special show to raise money for our album and we would love you to come and hear us play it live and hear it exclusively earlier on through the system.
“We have support from Ed Heslop’s Huckworm as well (who are mint) so there be will awesome music all night.
“Two great bands, fancy dress, free shot on entry, prize for best dressed, and bar until 11pm. Loads of tickets sold already so don’t hang around. This is likely to sell out.”
Tickets are available for £10 in advance from AJ Pugh’s butchers in Knighton and at the Castle Inn, Knucklas, and are £12 on the door. Hallowe’en fancy dress is encouraged but not compulsory. There is a bus available from Knighton and back for £8.
The emerging band consists of frontman Yeomans, who is lead vocalist as well as playing bass and piano, lead guitarist and bass player Jake Owen, drummer Matt Whitehouse and guitarist Tom Jaques, with string support provided by Jim Willis and Louis Robinson.
“After recording our debut album SuperPowers at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, then getting it mixed by Stew Jackson (Massive Attack, Emily Breeze, Nick Cave) in Bristol, we completed the process by getting the album mastered at Abbey Road in London,” added Yeomans.
Rhayader and District Male Voice Choir will feature on the upcoming album – set to be released in the New Year – recording with the band in February at the renowned Rockfield venue, which has been used previously by legendary bands like Queen, the Stone Roses, Motorhead and Oasis.
The band, whose members hail from Powys and Shropshire, including Knighton, enquired with the choir about singing on one of their tracks, even attending a choir practice earlier this year. The choir then performed backing lyrics on the song ‘Caer Bryn’ – a song about a former Mid Wales smallholding.
